“This is for Everyone”: Too often, in debates about sexuality, there is a tendency to “other” the opposition. But, when we look deep inside ourselves, perhaps we find that we are not so very different after all.
In American society, there seems to be a deeply-held belief that you can overcome all odds and defeat any enemy. Three individuals in America’s history; Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Paine, and Frederick Douglass, embody this idea, and all of them point to education as one of the necessities for attaining this end of self-empowerment.
